  • You don’t need a referral to access my services privately, however a referral from your GP accompanied by a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) or Chronic Condition Management Plan will allow you to access Medicare rebates. DVA clients will also need to send a valid referral from their GP or specialist to access services. To ensure that your rebate or DVA payment can be processed, please ensure that your referral is sent to me via email at hello@sophieodwyerpsychology.com.au prior to your first appointment.

  • If you are an Australian Citizen, you may be eligible for a rebate through Medicare with a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP). To assess your eligibility, you will need to meet with your treating doctor for an evaluation. Following your 6th and 10th session with your psychologist, you will need to visit your doctor for a review to ensure the care plan remains valid and you continue to be eligible for your rebate. As of 1st July 2025, you are able to claim up to 10 sessions per calendar year and the current rebate stands at $98.95. This may increase depending on your Medicare Safety Net. For more information please contact Medicare.

Please note: A major reform of the Better Access initiative will commence 1 November 2025. From that date, eligibility will require the referral, treatment plan and review to be made at the client’s “usual medical practitioner” or their MyMedicare-registered practice. Please ask your GP about how this may affect your eligibility.

  • I am registered with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) to provide psychological services to eligible veterans and their families.

DVA Gold Card holders are fully covered for all clinically necessary psychological treatment. White Card holders may also be eligible for services related to their accepted conditions (for example, mental health or pain management related to service).

If you hold a DVA card, please provide your card details when you complete the intake forms, and email your GP referral to hello@sophieodwyerpsychology.com.au prior to your first appointment. I will process your claims directly with DVA on your behalf. There is no out-of-pocket cost for eligible clients.

  • Private health insurance may also provide rebates (although not in combination with the above Medicare rebates) depending on your level of cover. Please check with your insurer regarding coverage if this is a rebate you hope to access.

  • For those living with chronic or long-term conditions, your GP may assess you as eligible for a Chronic Condition Management Plan.

Under this plan, you may be eligible to claim up to five (5) Medicare-subsidised allied health sessions per calendar year, which can be shared across providers (for example, psychology, physiotherapy, or dietetics). The current rebate for psychology sessions under this plan is $60.35 per session.

Please speak with your GP to determine your eligibility and to arrange a referral before your first appointment.

  • To refer to Sophie O’Dwyer Psychology under WorkCover Queensland, please complete a Work Capacity Certificate listing ‘Sophie O’Dwyer – Psychologist’ as the treating provider. The certificate and any relevant documents can be emailed directly to the case manager. Once approved, Sophie will receive the claim number and can proceed with treatment.

  • I accept NDIS participants who are self-managed or plan-managed for psychological therapy, pain psychology, and functional capacity support. Contact me at hello@sophieodwyerpsychology.com.au for more information.

Therapy integrates CBT, ACT for chronic pain, pacing and graded activity, flare planning, nervous system regulation, and trauma-informed approaches. Check out the video below to understand more about the role of your brain and the nervous system in chronic pain.
